The composition VIRTUS was written for the Madison County Central School Bands, Madison, Florida. It was inspired by Deuteronomy 31:6 (BSB), which reads, “Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid or terrified of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The word VIRTUS is of Latin origin, and it's meaning is associated with the words “courage, valor, virtue, and bravery.” VIRTUS is dedicated to all of my former music students in the Madison County Florida School System, who I had the privilege of teaching from 1974-2016.

It is my hope that VIRTUS will provide students with a song that they will enjoy learning to play, and provide other music educators with a teaching tool that can be used to motivate and encourage their students.
